India’s industrial output growth slows to 6.7% in September
India’s industrial output grew 6.7% in September, slower than the 7.8% recorded in August and its weakest growth in four months.
The figures cover production across the country, including factories, mines and power generation, and use a new index series based on 2022-23.
Mining output fell 6.2%, while manufacturing grew 7.6% and electricity and gas supply rose 11.2%.
Manufacturing gains included electrical equipment, motor vehicles and rubber and plastic products, and 17 of 23 manufacturing groups expanded.
Everyday consumer goods grew just 1.4%, while machinery and equipment used by businesses rose 10.4%, suggesting household spending remained weak as investment-related production held up.
Industrial growth strengthened to 7.3% in the July-September quarter, and economists expect GDP growth to exceed 7% for that period.

The deceleration was broad-based, with all four sectors recording a deterioration in their YoY performance between these months
The coming months are the festival and wedding seasons and should witness buoyancy, which should feed back into higher demand
