Six dead after fire tears through Brooklyn home

A fire tore through a two-storey home in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park early Thursday, killing six people.

More than 200 emergency responders went to the scene after the fire was reported at about 1:40am.

Seven people were reported injured, including three firefighters, though another account gave a higher total for civilian injuries.

Four people died at the scene, and two others died after being found in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, and officials have not said whether a lithium-ion battery found there was involved.

These batteries are used in e-bikes and household devices, and New York City’s mayor said e-bike fires have increased in the city.

Fire marshals are investigating what started the blaze, while the neighborhood faces the loss of six residents.
