Yoshitomi Shibata was honoured at a retirement ceremony at Tokyo Racecourse on Nov.

1, after announcing his retirement in September.

The 60-year-old thanked fans and said he had enjoyed a happy 42-year career as a jockey.

He won 2,341 races in Japan’s central horse-racing circuit during his career.

Fellow jockey Norihiro Yokoyama praised Shibata as a dependable senior and asked him to keep teaching him.

Shibata’s riding career ended after he injured his right shoulder in April and his jockey licence was withdrawn in September.

He is due to become a JRA adviser next March, and said he hopes to share advice suited to the times.
