Cost of living in Greater São Paulo fell 0.04% in August
The cost of living in Greater São Paulo fell 0.04% in August, according to a survey by FecomercioSP, a São Paulo state trade federation.
Lower electricity and fuel prices led the decline, with cheaper food also helping families.
Households in income groups D and E saw the biggest monthly drops, while costs for groups A and B were nearly unchanged.
Over 12 months, however, living costs rose more for groups D and E than for groups A and B. A temporary Itaipu energy bonus helped lower electricity bills, and FecomercioSP warned that this relief could reverse in coming months.
The survey tracks prices for 247 items across five household income groups in the metropolitan region.
The energy discount may not last, so the monthly fall does not mean costs will keep declining.
The cost of living in Greater São Paulo fell 0.04% in August, according to FecomercioSP.
Lower electricity and fuel prices drove the decline.
Electricity prices fell 7.42%, while ethanol prices dropped 4.6% and gasoline prices fell 1.2%.
Classes D and E recorded the largest monthly declines, at 0.14% and 0.07%, respectively.
FecomercioSP said a temporary Itaipu electricity bill bonus could reverse in the coming months.
