Repair finished early and traffic restored on St Petersburg ring-road bridge

Traffic restrictions were lifted on St Petersburg’s Bolshoy Obukhovsky Bridge early on 28 October after repair work finished.

The bridge carries the city’s ring road across the Neva River.

Two lanes had been closed since 6 October while crews repaired a joint in the road surface.

The work was originally due to finish on 31 October, but ended ahead of schedule.

All temporary signs and barriers were removed, and traffic returned to normal.

The closures had caused daily traffic jams on the ring road and nearby roads in the Nevsky district.

Traffic across St Petersburg was unusually light that morning, with congestion rated at three points; school holidays also helped keep roads quieter.
