Lorry leaves A303 near Amesbury, causing major delays

A lorry left the A303 near Amesbury on Monday morning, close to the Stonehenge area in Wiltshire.

Police were called at about 6.25am, and emergency services attended.

The road was blocked while crews recovered the vehicle, with queues forming in both directions.

Early reports said the lorry had ended up in a ditch and that closures could continue during recovery.

Police later said there were no reported injuries and that the vehicle had been recovered.

Delays reached 41 minutes, and speeds on the affected stretch fell as low as five miles per hour.

Traffic had largely returned to normal by around 12.20pm, though some delays remained as congestion cleared.
