Students told to shelter at University of Toronto Mississauga campus

The University of Toronto Mississauga ordered students to shelter in place on Monday night because of an active threat.

The university said it had received reports of police activity at the McLuhan Court residence on campus.

Students were told to take shelter immediately and secure doors.

Emergency responders were at the scene, while paramedics were waiting at a nearby staging location and had not been called in.

The alert went to the campus community, and the university said it would send updates every 30 minutes.

Those alerts will continue until police deem the area safe; Peel Regional Police had not responded to a request for comment.
