Fabio Vaccarono steps down as Multiversity executive chairman

Fabio Vaccarono has resigned as Multiversity’s executive chairman while an investigation into online universities is under way in Italy.

He told the company’s board he wanted to give the time and attention needed to clarify his position.

Vaccarono says he is entirely unconnected to the allegations under investigation.

The inquiry also involves executives at publishing companies and directors of newspapers and websites.

Multiversity’s board has kept its other leaders in place: Francesco Durante remains chief executive, and Luciano Violante remains honorary chairman.

The company says compliance work introduced during Vaccarono’s tenure helped uncover suspected irregularities, which were reported to the authorities.

The investigation is continuing, but no further steps are specified.
