Bethany Antonia responds to Strictly's edit of her trans rights T-shirt slogan

Bethany Antonia addressed the BBC’s edit of a T-shirt slogan in footage from Strictly Come Dancing.

The House of the Dragon actor wore a top reading “Protect The Dolls” during rehearsals, but the slogan was removed from footage shown on the programme earlier this month.

The slogan supports trans women, and sales of the T-shirt raise money for UK charity Not A Phase.

Antonia said the BBC had to make the edit to be fair to everyone, while stressing that she stands with her trans community.

The BBC says it routinely removes branding or slogans from entertainment shows under its editorial guidelines, regardless of their message.

The edit drew criticism online, while Antonia said she was pleased to see people support the trans community.

She hopes a trans contestant will join Strictly, saying it could help make the show more inclusive.
