Apple acquires AI audio editing firm Samplab
Apple acquired some assets and hired some employees from Samplab in June, according to a European Commission notice.
Samplab was a Zurich-based company whose software used AI to edit music.
Its tools could separate parts of a song, detect and change chords, and edit individual notes in recordings.
The note-editing feature could add new capabilities to Logic Pro, Apple's music production software, which already offers tools for separating song parts and identifying chords.
Apple may also use Samplab's technology in GarageBand or Apple Creator Studio, but it has not confirmed its plans.
Samplab shut down in September, and its website now redirects to Apple.com.
The acquisition gives Apple technology that could expand its music-editing tools, while the European Union's notice reflects rules requiring Apple to report certain deals because it is a designated gatekeeper.
