Alpine’s A424 makes its WEC farewell alongside the 1978 Le Mans winner

Alpine’s A424 makes its WEC farewell alongside the 1978 Le Mans winner

At the 6 Hours of Monza, Alpine’s A424 cars made a farewell appearance alongside the historic Renault-Alpine A442B.

The event marked the end of a 14-year chapter between Signatech and Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, or WEC.

The A442B won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1978, while the A424 has recorded one WEC victory, at Fuji in 2025.

Alpine’s planned exit was announced in February and followed a change in leadership at its parent group.

Signatech is seeking another partner in an effort to keep its team in the WEC’s top class.

Sports director Nicolas Lapierre said a privateer entry from 2027 was not the plan, citing the strength of the competition.

The Monza race is the project’s final event, and the team says it hopes to finish with strong results.

When the Hypercar regulations came out, I think this [privateer entries] was the idea, but the competitiveness of the field has been very strong and I think it is too strong for a privateer to come.

You have always two sides of the story. Either you cry because it's finishing or you just smile because it happened.
