Rio committee backs classifying CV and PCC as terrorist organizations
A committee of Rio de Janeiro’s state legislature approved a bill to classify two criminal groups as terrorist organizations in the state.
The groups are Comando Vermelho (CV) and Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC).
The committee vote does not put the classification into effect; the bill must first go to a vote by the full legislature.
If lawmakers approve it, the governor can sign or veto the proposal.
The bill would let public security agencies set out protocols to combat the groups, working with national and foreign entities that also classify them as terrorist organizations.
