Blue Jays Get Fourth Option Year for Pitcher Jake Bloss
The Toronto Blue Jays received a fourth option year for pitcher Jake Bloss, giving them more flexibility with him in 2027.
In baseball, an option lets a team send a player on its 40-man roster to the minors without first exposing him to waivers.
Bloss has used his first three options since joining Toronto in a 2024 trade with the Houston Astros.
He is a 25-year-old prospect still building experience, with limited minor-league innings after UCL surgery in 2025 and another injury this year.
The extra option means the Blue Jays can keep Bloss in Triple-A without cutting him or placing him on the major-league roster as the 2027 season approaches.
The team can use him as rotation depth while he builds up his workload and continues recovering.
Toronto's projected rotation includes Dylan Cease, Trey Yesavage, José Soriano, Cody Ponce and Spencer Arrighetti, while José Berríos is expected back from Tommy John surgery in the second half.
The Blue Jays could also add pitching this offseason, which may affect where Bloss and other depth options fit.
The Blue Jays will have a fourth option year for right-hander Jake Bloss, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reported.
The extra option will let Toronto send Bloss to the minors in 2027 without exposing him to waivers.
Bloss used his first three options after joining the Blue Jays in 2024 and spending much of 2025 and 2026 on optional assignment.
He had UCL surgery in May 2025 and returned to pitch in the minors from May to July this year before a teres major strain sidelined him.
The 25-year-old has since recovered from the strain and is pitching in the Arizona Fall League.
