Police begin dismantling migrant camp at Ceuta port
Police began dismantling a migrant camp at the Port of Ceuta on Sunday as the first expulsion orders arrived.
The people at the camp had reached Ceuta on July 30 and 31.
Their deadlines to apply for asylum in Spain had passed, and their applications were rejected.
They are being moved to the El Tarajal centre and the city’s migrant centre for identification and possible expulsion to Morocco.
It is not yet clear whether the whole camp will be cleared, because that depends on available places in other accommodation.
The camp is beside a school, so police chose Sunday to avoid disrupting classes; the port authority opposed using the site, but the Transport Ministry ordered it to be used.
