Cipla expects US recovery as respiratory launches and biosimilars advance

Indian drugmaker Cipla reported a softer September quarter year on year, partly because US sales faced a high comparison and sales of active pharmaceutical ingredients were weak.

Revenue and profit still grew from the previous quarter, helped by India, where sales of several types of medicines rose.

The company is looking for new respiratory products to revive US growth after a difficult year there.

Cipla expects US revenue to exceed $1 billion in FY27, up from $780 million the previous year, and plans 45 to 50 product filings over three years.

It has also agreed to sell a biosimilar version of cancer drug Keytruda in the US and Canada, a potential long-term growth driver.

Its operating margin fell compared with a year earlier, but Cipla kept its FY27 margin forecast at 18.5% to 20% and expects improvement in the second half.

The company’s recovery now depends on launches and product mix, while its shares have recently underperformed the healthcare index.
