Keanin Loomis wins Hamilton mayoral race, defeating Andrea Horwath

Keanin Loomis was elected mayor of Hamilton, Ontario, defeating incumbent Andrea Horwath in Monday’s municipal election.

With about 60 per cent of polls reporting, Loomis had roughly 41 per cent of the vote, while councillor Rob Cooper had about 32 per cent and Horwath about 14 per cent.

Horwath finished third, after beating Loomis by roughly 1,600 votes in the 2022 mayoral race.

Loomis previously led the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.

His win marks a reversal from 2022, when he lost to Horwath.

Loomis said his first priority is to work with the city’s new council, which includes several new councillors.

He also plans to advocate for Hamilton’s steel jobs, bringing together local businesses and labour groups and working with provincial and federal governments.
