French influencer Rayan PSN arrested over calls linked to October 17 protests

French influencer Rayan PSN was arrested in Créteil, near Paris, overnight on October 16-17 and placed in police custody.

Police had referred him to prosecutors over comments they said urged people to take part in riots during a planned mobilization on October 17.

On a Twitch livestream on October 12, he used the phrase “the 17th is Warzone” and called for people to lead riots.

The case concerns whether his remarks encouraged a crime or offence, an allegation that authorities referred to the justice system.

Rayan PSN has faced other legal proceedings, including a 2021 complaint over threats against then education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer.

Judicial authorities will assess the reported facts and decide what steps to take next.
