BBC News proposes more than 100 job cuts as broadcaster seeks savings

BBC News plans to cut just over 100 jobs as the UK public broadcaster tries to reduce its spending.

The cuts are expected to save £5.5 million and were announced by new BBC News director Rachel Jupp.

The BBC is aiming to save £500 million over the next two years, with a broader plan that could eliminate up to 2,000 jobs.

BBC News has been asked to contribute at least £51 million to that goal and has identified about £30.5 million in savings so far.

The planned cuts will not meet BBC News’s full savings target, so more measures are expected.

Jupp said further proposals are due early next year, and the division is reviewing costs including how presenters and long-form journalism are used.

Separately, BBC Three and BBC Scotland are set to leave broadcast television in spring 2027 and move online, while Radio 4 Extra is set to close.
