Tempted stuns Ka Ying Rising to win The Everest
Australian mare Tempted won The Everest at Royal Randwick in Sydney on October 17.
She held off Hong Kong sprinter Ka Ying Rising, who was seeking a second straight win and had won 21 races in a row.
The Everest is a Group 1 race over 1,200 metres, with a reported prize of A$20 million.
Jockey Chad Schofield rode Tempted on his Everest debut and took an early position instead of waiting for a late sprint.
Tempted had finished second to Ka Ying Rising in the previous year's race and had won her next five starts.
She narrowly beat the heavily favoured champion, with Joliestar also among the finishers.
The upset ended Ka Ying Rising's title bid, while the sources give no details about what either horse will race in next.

What people are saying
I didn’t have a choice other than to come back, pop in, give him a chance with some cover, and let him finish the race off, which he did.
I normally just ride her to relax and trust her to be far too good late
The ground was perfect. It was the barrier. We thought it could be a bonus for us, but it wasn’t.
We knew we had to take position. Chad knew what he had underneath him. She had to be phenomenal, and she was.
