Bahia fans demand Willian José’s departure after videos targeting the Northeast

Bahia striker Willian José shared videos criticizing the Northeast after Brazil’s presidential election confirmed Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re-election.

Fans of the club protested online and called on Bahia to end his contract, which runs through December 2026.

José is from Alagoas, in the Northeast, and said he lives in the region and his family is from there.

He said his post was a warning about politicians and voting, and argued that leaders should focus on education, health, safety and quality of life.

Lula won in all nine northeastern states, while Bahia is in a region where the election result drew particular attention.

The club’s supporters are seeking action from its directors, but no decision by the club is reported.
