Carl Martin beats David Picasso by split decision in Riyadh

Filipino boxer Carl Martin beat Mexico’s David Picasso by split decision in a 10-round fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The bout was part of a “Mexico vs. The World” boxing event ahead of the Canelo Álvarez–Christian Mbilli fight.

Martin took Picasso’s WBC Silver featherweight title, which Picasso had won in August.

Picasso knocked Martin down in the seventh round, but Martin recovered and continued fighting through the final bell.

Julio César Chávez said Picasso had lost through his own lack of effort, arguing that Martin had not done enough to win.

The defeat leaves Picasso with 33 wins, two losses and one draw, and the sources say it complicates his career; they do not give details of his next fight.

The boxing is won by throwing punches. It makes me very angry, because we know it was a fight he could well have won and he just kept doing it like that.
