Rome prosecutor says Facebook account was hacked after insult to Meloni
An insulting post about Giorgia Meloni appeared on a Facebook profile belonging to a Rome prosecutor.
It followed the Italian prime minister’s announcement that she would not sign a decree raising magistrates’ pay, as required by a State Council ruling.
Prosecutor Alessandro Di Cicco says someone hacked his account and posted the comment without his permission.
He says he deleted it, blocked the profile, alerted Meta and filed a complaint with Rome police.
Italy’s National Association of Magistrates called the words inappropriate, while right-wing representatives on the High Council of the Judiciary also criticised them.
The dispute involves both the post’s insulting language and whether Di Cicco wrote it; he said opposing Meloni’s position was not the same as insulting her.
The sources do not say what investigators will do next.
