Jakarta Police Prepare Traffic Changes Near Monas for Planned Protests

Jakarta police will adjust traffic as needed near Monas in central Jakarta on Oct.

20, as public gatherings are planned.

The Komite Sadar group plans a symbolic action at Proclamation Monument at 9 a.m., followed by a mass rally at Tugu Tani at 3 p.m.

The events are expected to cause congestion around the city center.

Police have flagged Medan Merdeka Barat, Medan Merdeka Selatan, Kebon Sirih, Abdul Muis and Perwira streets as roads to watch.

Drivers are being urged to use other routes, allow extra time and follow directions from officers.

The group, whose name means Committee for Awareness, says it is raising concerns about the economy, democracy, law, the environment and education.

It also cited a survey of 560 respondents from Sumatra to Papua, in which 78.8% said the Prabowo-Gibran government and its cabinet had failed.

Traffic arrangements will depend on conditions, so drivers should check instructions while travelling through the area.
