Two killed and two injured in shooting at Moss Landing State Beach

A shooting at Moss Landing State Beach killed two people early Monday in Moss Landing, a coastal community in Monterey County, California.

Two other people were injured and taken to hospital; officials said one had non-life-threatening injuries, while the other person's condition was initially unknown.

Authorities said the shooting happened shortly after midnight, and the beach closes at sunset, so the people were there after hours.

Investigators have not identified a suspect or motive, and the victims' identities have not been released.

Officials also said they do not know whether the people involved knew one another, and the shooting has not yet been classified as a homicide.

Jetty Road and the beach are closed while detectives examine the scene and investigate.

The sheriff's office said there is no active threat to the community, but the investigation is expected to take time.
