Daejeon to build public play space and expand local mileage program

Daejeon’s Dong-gu district secured 500 million won in special government funding for a public play facility for children aged 0 to 5.

The district plans to add 250 million won of its own, bringing the project total to 750 million won.

The roughly 330-square-metre facility will be part of a community centre being built in Sinheung-dong, which is designed to bring childcare and health services together.

The centre is due to be completed by June next year, and the play facility is intended to support young children and families.

Separately, Daejeon is changing its OnTong Daejeon local currency mileage scheme so more residents can take part.

The city has removed the 100,000-person limit and lowered the walking target for earning mileage from 8,000 steps to 4,000.

Residents will also be able to earn mileage through activities such as surveys, events, blood donation and civic campaigns.
