Fire volunteer dies after reporting chest pain in South Kalimantan

Volunteer firefighter Nurdin died after fighting a land and forest fire in Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan.

The fire was behind the Handil Bakti subdistrict office.

A colleague said Nurdin had seemed well before they went to fight the fire.

He began reporting chest pain and had trouble breathing after facing the flames.

His colleagues gave him oxygen and tried to get him to hospital, but an ambulance had not arrived.

They drove him in a fire-service vehicle, and he lost consciousness several times and had seizures on the way.

Hospital staff declared him dead after he arrived.
