Finnish livestream follows dog Hilkka and her six newborn puppies

Finland’s public broadcaster Yle is streaming Hilkka and her six puppies around the clock in its programme Pentulive.

Hilkka, a Lagotto Romagnolo, gave birth to four female puppies and two males.

Cameras in a breeder’s home will follow the family for eight weeks, with a team in Helsinki controlling the feed remotely.

Pentulive is in its sixth series and draws on “slow TV,” which uses long stretches of everyday footage rather than fast-paced editing.

The programme’s website recorded 6.6 million visits in six days, and it also offers a live chat, a game and a weekly podcast.

Yle journalist Pirjo Koskinen says viewers have used the stream for comfort and companionship, including in classrooms and with relatives who have dementia.

The livestream will continue for eight weeks, letting viewers watch the puppies grow.
