Rupiah weakens to about 18,075 per US dollar

The Indonesian rupiah weakened slightly against the US dollar in Friday morning trading, with rates reported around 18,075 to 18,076 rupiah per dollar.

The figures differ slightly between reports, but both show the rupiah losing ground from its previous close.

Currency analyst Lukman Leong said global risk concerns could put further pressure on the rupiah, including worries about artificial intelligence, rising tensions in the Middle East and France’s fiscal situation.

These concerns can make investors more cautious and increase demand for the US dollar.

A stronger domestic stock market could help support the rupiah if positive sentiment continues.

Leong forecast the currency would trade between 17,900 and 18,100 rupiah per dollar that day.
