Power Grid plans to spend more than ₹40,000 crore on transmission
India’s state-owned Power Grid plans to spend more than ₹40,000 crore on transmission infrastructure this fiscal, above its spending of about ₹40,000 crore in FY26.
The company says rising electricity demand is driving the investment, as India adds renewable energy capacity and more cities and data centres need power.
Power Grid chairman Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra urged cable and wire makers to expand capacity and improve quality to meet expected demand and project deadlines.
Transmission lines carry electricity from power plants to users, and they must be built in step with new renewable projects so generators can deliver their electricity.
Building transmission infrastructure can take longer than developing renewable projects because of land and route constraints.
The Green Energy Corridor-III programme offers another major opportunity, with planned investment of around ₹1.86 lakh crore.
