Woman dies in A26 crash as truck fire causes further disruption

Two crashes disrupted the A26 between Masone and Ovada in Liguria, Italy.

In the direction of Genoa, a car and a truck collided in a tunnel, and a woman travelling in the car died.

The 82-year-old driver was taken by helicopter to hospital in Alessandria in serious condition.

In the opposite direction, a truck caught fire, and firefighters put out the flames after its driver detached the trailer and called for help.

The crashes led to road closures and queues of several kilometres; one lane was reopened after the fatal crash, and the road was later reported open with one lane available.

Police are investigating the collision, while traffic had to pass through the affected sections with delays.
