Prosecutors seek trial for Calabria governor over car reimbursements
Rome prosecutors have asked a judge to send Calabria Governor Roberto Occhiuto to trial over car reimbursements.
The case concerns monthly payments of €3,893 that Occhiuto received from the Calabria regional government for using a car for official duties.
Investigators say he also had access to a regional Audi Q6 through a leasing contract, raising questions about whether he was entitled to the payments.
Occhiuto says he sought clarification from regional offices and was assured the allowance was legitimate.
He says any overlap between the allowance and the regional car lasted only briefly in January 2024 and from November 2024 until summer 2025.
Occhiuto denies wrongdoing and says he will explain his position at a preliminary hearing.
The request to send him to trial is not a verdict; a judge will decide whether the case proceeds.
