Leclerc rejects Hadjar’s claim Verstappen would have won Singapore in a Ferrari
Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix by 7.3 seconds over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen’s team-mate Isack Hadjar argued that Verstappen would have won by more in a Ferrari, which Hadjar believed was the fastest car in Singapore.
Leclerc rejected the claim, saying Hadjar cannot know how Ferrari’s car performs and that he cannot assess another team’s car either.
Leclerc said the field is closely matched, and that getting the most from a car can matter more than expected differences between cars.
He also said Mercedes could be faster if it finds the performance the team expected, but otherwise the competition is likely to remain tight.
The drivers now head to Austin for the United States Grand Prix, where Leclerc is fifth in the standings and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli leads.
Isack Hadjar said Max Verstappen could have won the Singapore Grand Prix by a larger margin if he had been driving a Ferrari.
Hadjar argued that Red Bull did not have the fastest car in Singapore, despite Verstappen’s victory.
Verstappen beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by about seven seconds at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Hadjar said Verstappen made the most of his opportunities, including qualifying on pole by a narrow margin.
The comments came in Austin ahead of the United States Grand Prix.
