Ravi Shastri urges India to limit Bumrah’s workload before 2027 World Cup

Ravi Shastri has urged India to manage Jasprit Bumrah’s workload carefully before the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The advice concerns India’s leading fast bowler, who has had recurring injury problems, including back trouble and a knee injury.

Shastri says Bumrah should focus mainly on Test cricket and play limited white-ball matches in ODIs and T20Is.

India have left him out of the five ODIs and five T20Is on the New Zealand tour, with plans to use him in the two Tests.

Those Tests are important for India’s World Test Championship qualification hopes, while the wider tour will also help the team prepare for the World Cup.

The 2027 tournament will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

India’s team management will have to balance Bumrah’s fitness with the demands of its upcoming matches.

I don’t think he should play all three formats until the World Cup. He should focus primarily on Test cricket and feature sporadically in ODIs and T20Is. I’d rather preserve him for the two Tests in New Zealand, where he’ll be crucial,

For India, qualifying for the final is an uphill task. They probably need to win around 90 per cent of their remaining games, including both Tests in New Zealand and at least four of the five against Australia. It’s not impossible, but a lot depends on other results as well,
