Ken Kutaragi Says Ending PS5 Disc Support Makes Economic Sense

Sony plans to end support for PS5 game discs in 2028, a move that has upset fans who prefer physical copies.

Ken Kutaragi, a former PlayStation executive known as the “Father of PlayStation,” said he understands why people value discs and feel they own the games they buy.

He says continuing disc support may not make economic sense as more players choose digital games.

Physical games still sell in large numbers, and in some regions they account for more than half of new PS5 game sales.

The change could shift how players access and keep their games, adding to concerns about digital ownership.

Nintendo says it does not plan to drop physical games for now, while Microsoft has not said what it will do about discs.
