Brazilian election judge orders shutdown of pro-Flávio crypto token site

Brazilian electoral court minister Estela Aranha ordered a cryptocurrency site taken offline on Friday.

The site offered tokens to people who shared “B22” and other content urging voters to support presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro.

The order came during the campaign, near the second round of voting.

Aranha said the token offer could amount to an economic reward for spreading election material and could affect fair competition.

She also ordered those behind the project to stop offering tokens or other benefits for related posts, and directed social media platforms to preserve information about accounts linked to it.

Binance’s representative in Brazil was ordered to provide account details connected to the tokens.

Flávio’s campaign said it did not know who created the site and had no connection to it.
