Two Saudi students win fully funded Rhodes scholarships to Oxford

Saudi students Joudi Alahmadi and Lina Alshunaifi won Rhodes scholarships for 2027, which will fund their graduate studies at the University of Oxford in the UK.

The awards are part of a group for more than 100 students from around the world, and the scholarships begin in October.

The wins bring the number of Saudi Rhodes scholars to 20 since a Saudi scholarship program began in 2018.

Alahmadi studies quantum technologies and plans to pursue a doctorate in atomic and laser physics at Oxford.

Shunaifi studies economics and political science at the University of Pennsylvania and plans to pursue graduate degrees in global health, epidemiology and digital health at Oxford.

The scholarships support academic and research opportunities for Saudi students, with the recipients planning to contribute to research and health policy in Saudi Arabia.

Applications for the 2028 scholarships open in June 2027 through the Rhodes Trust website.
