Chargers Keep Mike McDaniel as Play-Caller Despite 0-6 Start

The winless Los Angeles Chargers are 0-6 after losing their first six games of the NFL season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Mike McDaniel will remain the offensive play-caller when the team returns from its bye week.

Harbaugh made the decision after the team reviewed its performance during the break.

In their latest game, the Chargers scored six points and gained 259 yards in a 22-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback Justin Herbert has thrown eight interceptions, tied for the NFL lead, and the offense has struggled under McDaniel, who joined this offseason after coaching the Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers are averaging a league-low 15 points per game, making the decision to keep McDaniel in charge a significant test of the current plan.

McDaniel will call plays in Week 8, and the team could adjust its offense, but no change has been announced.
