Gabriel Medina wins WSL event in the Philippines and moves to second in rankings

Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina won the World Surf League event at Cloud 9 in the Philippines on Tuesday.

It was his first tour victory since April 2023, when he won at Margaret River in Australia.

In the final, he beat Australian Jack Robinson with a total of 16.93 points to Robinson’s 14.50.

The win moved Medina into second place in the 2026 rankings, behind fellow Brazilian Yago Dora, who lost to him in the semifinals.

Medina, a three-time world champion, had finished second three times this season before the victory.

The season title will be decided at Pipeline in Hawaii, where the final event is scheduled for December 8 to 20.

Medina dedicated the win to his wife, Isabella Arantes, thanking her for supporting him through difficult times.
