Pertamina Begins Exploratory Well Drilling in North Kalimantan

Pertamina Hulu Energi Lepas Pantai Bunyu began drilling the Tingkilan-001 exploration well on Oct.

2 in Mangkupadi, Bulungan district, North Kalimantan.

The well is part of the company's exploration program in the Maratua working area.

Drilling is intended to test for hydrocarbons in the Menumbar Formation, based on geological studies and underground data.

The vertical well is planned to reach a depth of 1,574 metres measured along the well, or 1,554 metres vertically below sea level.

The company says new oil and gas resources could help sustain production and support Indonesia's energy security.

Before drilling, it met with local officials, community leaders and residents to discuss the work, coordination and safety; the subdistrict government expressed support.

Drilling will continue toward its planned depth, and the company says it hopes the work will be safe and meet its target.
