EcoFlow TITAN batteries are designed to run central air during blackouts

EcoFlow has launched three TITAN home battery models for backup power and household energy use.

The company says the TITAN 5000 Plus can start and run a compatible 3-ton central air conditioner with a single 5kWh battery, without extra hardware.

Central air can be difficult for batteries because its compressor draws a large surge of power when it starts.

The TITAN 5000 and 5000 Plus are rated for 7,200 watts of continuous output, while the Plus can reach 10,000 watts when solar panels are supplying power.

The system can store up to 30kWh by adding stackable batteries, and a transfer panel can back up 10 selected home circuits.

EcoFlow says the panel switches to battery within 20 milliseconds, but advises people relying on medical equipment to check that equipment's backup needs.

The models are on sale through EcoFlow's website, with standalone units expected to cost $2,000 to $3,000; exact prices are due November 3.

The system does not send electricity back to the grid, and any potential savings would come from using stored power during peak-price periods.
