Bizkaia startup develops device to monitor workers at height

Jimm Monitoring, a Bizkaia technology company, has developed a device to monitor workers at height.

Founded in 2022 by Jorge Arbaiza, Mikel Etxeberria and Ignacio, the company aims to address the risk of workers wearing safety equipment but not attaching themselves to a lifeline.

Its 280-gram device checks whether a worker is connected and can detect a fall, using sensors and an algorithm.

It sends information about the device’s status and location to a digital platform, where safety managers can receive alerts; workers can also use an SOS button.

The system adds active monitoring but does not replace a harness or lifeline.

The founders have invested more than €300,000, and the company has produced an initial batch and is presenting the product commercially.

Jimm is seeking to sell through companies with established safety practices, and proposes monthly rentals at an indicative price of about €75; predictive tools using artificial intelligence may be a future development if enough data is collected.

Once a company is convinced this is good, it can require that no one work at height without a system like this.
