Michelon wins Munich supersprint as Perrot takes third

French biathlete Océane Michelon won the women’s supersprint on the opening day of the Loop One Festival in Munich.

She recovered from one miss at the first shooting stage and finished ahead of Sweden’s Elvira Oeberg and Anna Magnusson.

In the men’s race, Eric Perrot took third place behind Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma and Norway’s Johan-Olav Botn.

The supersprint has qualifying rounds before a final, and Julia Simon missed the final by three tenths of a second after finishing 16th in qualifying.

Simon missed three of her 10 shots, while Michelon was the only French woman to qualify.

The results come 40 days before the World Cup opens, giving athletes a chance to compete ahead of the season.

Another supersprint is scheduled for Sunday, with qualifying heats in the morning and finals later in the day.
