Pakistan court summons former EOBI chief after appeal against acquittal
Pakistan’s Islamabad High Court has summoned a former EOBI chairman and other defendants in a corruption case involving the public pension institution.
The court ordered them to appear in person on November 20 after hearing arguments in an appeal filed by EOBI.
The appeal challenges their acquittal in April 2025 in a case registered in Islamabad in 2014.
EOBI’s lawyer argued that a 2013 purchase of land and villas from the Defence Housing Authority lacked open, competitive procurement.
The lawyer said the deal may have caused a loss of 6.82 billion Pakistani rupees to the state, while the wider case concerns alleged corruption of 40 billion rupees.
The lawyer argued that later approvals by institutional bodies or legal advice could not excuse breaches of procurement rules.
The defendants must attend the next court hearing, but the court has not announced an outcome on the appeal.

Subsequent approval of the transaction by the Investment Committee or the institution’s legal opinion cannot override mandatory legal provisions.
The position of department head does not allow him to avoid accountability by relying on decisions of institutional bodies.
