Netflix hires Steve Wilson to lead podcast acquisitions

Netflix has hired Steve Wilson to lead podcast acquisitions on a contract basis.

Wilson previously spent 15 years at Apple, most recently heading marketing for Apple Podcasts, and later held senior roles at podcast studio QCode and Daylight Media.

Netflix is expanding its video podcast lineup, which includes more than 60 shows and programs such as “The Pete Davidson Show” and “Murder With My Husband.”

The company is adding podcasts as it grows the range of content available on its streaming service.

The hire comes amid major cuts and leadership changes at Netflix: the company recently laid off about 1,000 employees, or 6% of its workforce, and replaced several senior content executives.

Netflix has tapped veteran TV executive Peter Rice to replace chief content officer Bela Bajaria.

Wilson will lead the company’s podcast content acquisitions, but no further plans or timeline for the expansion were given.
