Korean Lawmaker Questions Possible Cut to Weekly Housing Price Updates

At a parliamentary audit in South Korea, lawmakers questioned the Korea Real Estate Board about its weekly apartment price updates.

The board’s chief had mentioned in June that the publication frequency might be reduced.

People could question whether this was an attempt to publish less often when the figures were uncomfortable, lawmaker Jeong Hee-yong said.

The chief replied that he had been answering a question.

He said the figures have some limits but are statistically meaningful over the long term compared with actual transaction price indexes.

The exchange comes as Seoul apartment prices have risen for 87 weeks in a row, and the board chief did not announce a change to the publication schedule.
