Mexico's defense chief reviews troop deployment in Mazatlán

Mexico's defense chief Ricardo Trevilla visited troops in Mazatlán on October 27 as part of a security review in Sinaloa.

A cooler containing suspected human remains was found outside Mazatlán's city hall around 6 a.m., prompting a response from security forces at all three levels of government.

Authorities have not confirmed what was inside the cooler and have withheld the contents of a message found beside it.

Trevilla's visit was part of a coordinated federal security agenda ordered by President Claudia Sheinbaum, with other officials due to visit Sinaloa on different days that week.

The reviews are intended to check deployments, hear the needs of state and municipal police, and assess the C4 control center and a proposed maximum-security prison site.

Federal and local agencies are coordinating their security work in Sinaloa, and the remaining visits were scheduled for later in the week.
