Drone activity disrupts flights at Jersey Airport for second night

Drone activity disrupted flights at Jersey Airport for a second night on Saturday, after the airport said drones were near the airfield.

Police believe two or three drones entered restricted airspace, but say they are not thought to be linked to terrorism.

The disruption affected inbound flights, with late-evening services cancelled and passengers left waiting.

Jersey RFC’s team, returning from Southampton, had to stay in the UK and rebook for Monday morning, adding hotel and other costs for the club.

The incidents matter because the airport is a vital lifeline for Jersey, and disruptions also affect passengers and local businesses.

Jersey Police are investigating and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

The island government is working with UK authorities and specialist agencies on stronger detection and counter-drone support to prevent further disruption.
