Zelensky speaks with Trump envoys as Ukraine prepares next diplomatic steps

On Oct.

18, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about the latest diplomatic talks held by their teams in Miami.

The envoys are leading peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky said Ukraine and the United States are preparing their next diplomatic steps, and he hopes talks with Washington can take place as early as next week.

The call comes amid strained ties, with the Trump administration waiving sanctions on Russia and pressing Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries.

Zelensky said Russia has attacked Ukrainian oil and gas facilities 76 times since Trump announced an energy ceasefire, while Ukraine later resumed refinery strikes.

Zelensky also said Washington has resumed sharing information about Russian missile launches, but Ukraine says U.S. support affects its air defense as Russian attacks continue.

Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to work with the United States, but the next steps in diplomacy are still being prepared.
