US average gasoline price reaches $4.15 per gallon on midterm election day
The average US price for regular gasoline reached $4.15 per gallon on November 3, the day of the congressional midterm elections.
The figure was the highest recorded on an US election day since 2000, according to data cited in the reports.
In Texas, where driving is essential for many people, gasoline averaged $3.68 a gallon, up from $2.59 a year earlier.
Some Texas drivers said they were buying less fuel or tightening their budgets as costs rose.
The higher prices are also an issue for voters weighing their choices in a closely watched Texas Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton.
Americans were voting for 35 senators and all 435 House members, as well as governors and other state officials.
The reports give no further result or next step on the election.
