SPD faces criticism over coalition tensions and Berlin talks
Ruhr SPD members criticized the federal coalition at a meeting in Bochum, saying public disputes were not producing solutions.
They selected ten proposals, including 30 billion euros in support for municipalities and more affordable housing, for party leaders in Berlin.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil said he would take the ideas to Berlin, but left open whether he would seek another term as party chair when the party leadership is elected in January.
The proposals come as the SPD and its coalition partners face difficult debates over issues including pensions, health care and care services.
In a separate Berlin dispute, SPD leader Steffen Krach made support for a coalition deal conditional on the Left addressing concerns about its lawmaker Vanessa Emde.
Krach also said the Left must take concrete action to reassure Jewish residents and address concerns about organized crime.
Whether the Berlin parties form a coalition remains uncertain, and the SPD plans a member vote on any deal in January.

In Berlin, SPD lead candidate Steffen Krach said he would not recommend a coalition deal with the Left Party unless it addressed the case of lawmaker Vanessa Emde.
Krach also called for stronger action against organized crime and concrete measures to protect Jewish life.

What people are saying
I’m not glued to my chair, but say: I will do my part to ensure that the best possible leadership for the SPD is ultimately achieved.
People are annoyed by this and want solutions to their problems.
If this has not been resolved by the end of coalition talks, I cannot recommend to my party that it approve the coalition agreement.
The one thing is the paper, the other is concrete action.
